Planning permission has been granted for our proposals to refurbish and extend The Drum arts centre in Aston, Birmingham.

The planning application, submitted at the end of April 2015, will help the venue secure further funding enabling them to substantially improve the main auditorium, as well as make improvements throughout the rest of the building. If the application for the 2nd stage of Arts Council funding is successful, the work is estimated to begin in spring 2016. Construction work will be carried out through the Constructing West Midlands (CWM) Framework.

The redevelopment of this dedicated intercultural performance centre signifies financial investment in an area of the Birmingham which is often overlooked for such things, so it’s an important time for the arts and culture scene in the city.

The Drum is situated on the site of the former Aston Hippodrome with historical arts performances from the likes of Laurel & Hardy, Judy Garland and Morecambe & Wise. Read more about the project here.
